Getting started
What is Tenna?
Tenna is a player for IPTV playlists. You give it your own Xtream Codes login or M3U link, and it shows your live TV, movies and series in one tidy app with a TV guide, multi-view and live sports scores.
Does Tenna come with channels or content?
No. Tenna provides no channels, films or series, and hosts nothing. You bring a playlist from a provider you have the right to use. See the disclaimer.
Is it free?
Yes. No subscription, no ads and no sign-up.
How do I add my playlist?
On first launch Tenna shows the add-playlist form. Choose Xtream Codes and enter the server address, username and password your provider gave you, or choose M3U URL and paste the link. Tap Add playlist and wait while the library loads. Later, add more under Settings, then Playlists.
If you copied your login from a message, Tenna offers to fill the form in for you.
What is the difference between Xtream Codes and M3U?
Both are ways a provider can share a channel list. An Xtream Codes login (server, username, password) also gives Tenna movies, series and the TV guide. An M3U link is a plain list of live channels.
Downloading and installing
Which Mac file should I download?
Apple menu, then About This Mac. Chip: Apple M1 (or M2, M3, M4) means Apple Silicon: get the mac-arm64 file. Processor: Intel means the mac-x64 file. The Intel one on an Apple Silicon Mac works but is far slower.
Windows says "Windows protected your PC". Is it safe?
That screen appears for any program Windows has not seen many times or that is not code-signed, and Tenna's installer is not signed yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway. You can check the installer is the real one by downloading it only from the Download page, which links to this project's GitHub releases.
My Mac says the app cannot be opened or is damaged.
macOS blocks apps that are not signed with an Apple developer certificate. Move Tenna to Applications, then right-click it and choose Open, then Open again. If it still says "damaged", open Terminal and run xattr -cr "/Applications/Tenna IPTV Player.app".
Will there be Android and iPhone versions?
Yes, both are coming soon. The Download page will show the buttons once they are ready.
Can I run it on my smart TV?
Not directly. Plug a computer running Tenna into the TV with an HDMI cable, or, once the iPhone and iPad apps are out, send the picture to a TV that supports AirPlay.
Watching
Why does a channel keep stopping, or show "Reconnecting…"?
Tenna reconnects a stalled stream by itself: it nudges it, then restarts it, with waits between tries. If the problem is the provider's server or your connection, it will keep trying and then show an error with a Retry button. Try the speed test in Settings to check your connection.
Multi-view cuts channels out when I add another one.
Many providers allow only one stream at a time per account, and stop a stream when a second one opens. Use the cross-playlist view with playlists from different accounts, or ask your provider about a plan with more connections.
A film had picture but no sound.
Films with Dolby Digital or DTS sound need converting, which the desktop apps do automatically. It can take a few seconds to start. If a film still has no sound, tell us which one.
How do I turn on subtitles or change the audio language?
Open the controls over a film and tap the subtitle or audio button. The tracks stored in the film are listed; choose one. A film that has no subtitle tracks will show none.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
Space or K pause, ← → skip, ↑ ↓ volume, M mute, F or a double-click for full screen, PgUp PgDn previous and next channel, and Esc to leave full screen or go back.
The programme guide shows the wrong times.
Some providers' guides run early or late. Open Settings, Playlists, choose the playlist, then Manage EPG and shift the guide by the number of hours that makes it right.
Privacy and legal
What data does Tenna collect?
None. There are no accounts, ads or analytics. Your logins and library stay on your device, and the app talks only to your provider, to a public sports scoreboard for scores, and to a speed-test server when you run the speed test. The full details are in the privacy policy.
Is Tenna legal to use?
Tenna is a media player, like many others. Whether what you watch with it is legal depends on your playlist and on where you live, and that is your responsibility. See the disclaimer and the terms of use.
Is the source code available?
Yes, the code for the apps is on GitHub and the desktop packaging is on GitHub too. See the open-source notices for the software Tenna is built with.
Still stuck? Report a problem on GitHub and tell us your computer (Windows or Mac, and which chip), what you were doing, and what happened. Please never share your playlist login in a public report.
